Autumn Intentions

If you live anywhere outside of my region, the air is probably starting to cool, leaves might be juuuust starting to turn, and you can definitely tell fall is fast approaching.

If, however, you live in the devil’s oven like I do, there is no end in sight. The entire month of September is just as oppressive as August – it’s still hot as blazes and it seems that the humidity hanging in the air is there only to torture you and your hair.

I realized I said that I wasn’t done with summer a few posts ago, but what I meant was that I wanted the out-of-school, no commitments feeling of summer to last a while longer. Now that school is in session and activities abound, I need for summer to shut down quick. Floating in a pool with a lemonade in your hand on a hot summer day? Bliss! Sitting on metal bleachers at a football game in 100° heat? NO THANK YOU.

So I’ve decided I’m going to conjure up some autumn feels by thinking about what I want to do this fall… an autumn bucket list, if you will. Behold! My Autumn Intentions:

  • decorate my front porch (assuming I can keep the dog from destroying all of it)
  • declutter my house (yes, all of it…well as much as I can anyway)
  • attend Tara’s Movie on the Lawn – my friend Tara hosts a Halloween movie each October with food and a theme. One year we watched It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown – it was the cutest Halloween party ever! I look forward to it every year. (In the spring, she did a baseball party where they watched The Sandlot – I had to miss that and I’m still not over it.)
  • Watch It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown while eating caramel apples
  • go hiking someplace where I can be surrounded by gorgeous fall foliage
  • sit by a campfire (or a fire pit) on a Saturday night and listen to the frogs in the pond
  • finish decorating my bedroom – I want it to look like a walk in the woods
  • Bake cinnamon bread
  • Make an extremely large batch of butternut squash soup
  • Bonus – go on a hayride. I always think about doing this, then never do it for some reason.

I feel more autumn-y already and I can practically taste the butternut squash soup! What are your intentions for the upcoming fall season? Do you have rituals that you always do or are you more fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants like I usually am? Share below!

Super-rambly weekend recap

Howdy Y’all!

Did you have a good weekend? I spent most of my weekend at my mom’s house helping her get ready for our family reunion this coming weekend. I’m excited that I get to be with my sisters and their families – we all only live a couple hours away from each other, but we don’t get everyone together very often. When we do get together, it’s a blast!

Man, I have got the cravings something fierce today. I will admit, I ate more junk than usual over the weekend – quantities weren’t bad, but the quality very, very bad – so it has carried over into this morning. I could really go for a donut right now, even though I know if wouldn’t hold me over for more than half an hour. Really need to do some serious detoxing of the sugar…right after I have a donut.

Ack – today is really busy at work. I really hate it when everything happens at once!

Oh – sad, sad news to report: my mp3 player went through the washing machine Friday night and is now officially dead. Why is this significant? Because I cannot work out without my tunes blaring in my ears pushing me to work harder and longer. Seriously, I feel derailed… betrayed…abandoned. I have too many other purchases coming up in the near future (food for family reunion and Sarah’s birthday later this month) so I can’t just run right out and buy a new one. Not really sure how I’m going to handle this. I may have to dig Jillian and her evil Shred out of the DVD cabinet and go with that for awhile until I can gather the funds to purchase replacement motivation, because I seriously need to get back on the workout wagon. I’ve been slacking the last couple of weeks, and I don’t want to slack off any more – I get too many benefits from working out regularly to just quit.

The weather here today is GOR-GEE-OUS!!! Seriously, you would never believe it is August – it feels more like October. That’s part of the reason I’m psyched to work out – a change in the weather always makes want to move and groove. I’m so ready for Fall. I’m ready for caramel-scented candles, ready to decorate my house in Autumn décor, ready for high school football games, ready to buy new sweaters and jeans and boots!! Really, what’s not to love about Fall???

Okay it’s taken my 3 hours to write this one little post, so I’m going to quit while I’m ahead. It’s almost lunch time, and after lunch I have lots to do, so I’m just going to go ahead and post this while I have the chance. Have a good Monday!

Feeling a little frisky today – it’s 60 degrees right now and these first few days when Autumn finally starts peeking through the Summer curtain makes me giddy with anticipation of new jeans and boots and caramel scented candles.  LOVE. IT.

 

I was taking a glance at DietGirl’s blog this morning and she brought up the question of what would your fight song be?  You know, those first few seconds when fighter is introduced and they play a snippet of some bad-ass song that gets everyone pumped?  Yeah, that’s a fight song.  So of course I was thinking about what my bad-ass song would be and here’s just a few that came to mind rather quickly:

Maybe even Abba’s Dancing Queen (not really for fighting, but I love this song anyway)

 

But really, the song that makes me want to smoke cigarettes and get a tattoo is The Cult’s Fire Woman.  This is the song my roomie D and I used to play when we were getting ready to go man hunting out on the town.  This song brings back the fondest of memories and it’s totally kick ass. 

 

Now if I were really blog-talented I would embed a 30 second mp3 of these songs for your listening pleasure, but since I’m not, I won’t.  You can run a Google search of these songs and I’m sure somewhere out there is a sample of the songs, if you feel so inclined to spend the time to find them.  Or you can just tune in to your local classic rock station and most likely find them there. 

 

So what would your song be?  It doesn’t even have to be a fight song; let’s say you want to hire someone to walk around behind you with a giant boom box over their heads playing your theme song everywhere you go.  What would that song be? 

 

In completely unrelated news, I told the hubs about my blog last night.  I thought that he at least should know, so I fired up the computer and brought up my site.  He asked what it was and I told him it was a weight loss blog, I write about weight loss and people comment on it, etc.  He said, “So you write little stories?”  “No, not really stories, I just talk about weight loss.”  He mumbled something about “weird” and “need to get a new girlfriend” as he headed to bed.  I’ll make him sit down and read some posts so he can get an idea of what this is all about, but for now he just thinks I’m crazy – which is nothing new. 😉  I’m glad that he knows it’s out there now anyway. 

 

In other completely unrelated news, there are 109 shopping days until Christmas.  Yeah, I know…me too.
