Not as evolved as I thought…OR AM I?

Standard

Hey, guess who can’t handle having a dish of Halloween candy on her desk?

THIS GIRL.

I thought my coworkers might enjoy something other than the standard peppermints I usually keep on my desk, so I bought a couple of bags of Halloween candy to fill my dish.

Amount of candy coworkers have eaten: ZERO

Amount of candy Jill has eaten: ALL THE CANDIES ALL THE TIMES

The craziest part is that it’s not even candy that I particularly care for. I bought it specifically because I don’t really like it. If this candy were in my Trick or Treat bag, I’d gladly pass it on to someone else. IT’S NOT EVEN GOOD, YOU GUYS.

And yet, I find myself sneaking piece after piece throughout the day.

*siiiiiigh*

So, in a show of strength and solidarity to myself, I threw it out. All of it. Because it just isn’t serving me well.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable to throw out candy if it makes you feel bad about yourself or your choices or whatever. I didn’t like how it made me feel, so OUT it went. And THAT made me feel good. So there.

We now return to our regularly scheduled peppermints.

I definitely can’t handle Halloween candy on my desk (or in my desk, or near me!) – After the kids get their candy, we usually all get to keep 1 quart size bag (yes, we openly take their candy instead of stealing it) and then the rest of the candy comes with me to work (and disappears within hours). But the candy I take for myself comes to work as well and I eat it all within ours. Zero self control!

  2. I call this “saving me from myself” and it’s why I don’t keep many treats in the house – some people can have them in the freezer, but hey, frozen cookies taste great in a pinch. Good on you for tossing the candy!

  3. Iv’e had to toss various junk food for this same reason! It’s amazing what we’ll stuff in our faces during a stressful workday. I am not to be trusted, so I definitely feel you here!

  4. I’ve definitely found that the tactic of getting candy/cookies/junk that I don’t like much DOESN’T WORK! If that is all there is, that is what I eat! Without the enjoyment I get from treats I actually like. So many times I have said “I can safely keep this for the family/guests, I don’t like it so I won’t eat it.” HA!

I work in a buying office & one of the categories is candy. Yep, there are often samples that come in. Ugh! This goes on all year long. My co-workers joke that they gained 20 pounds the first year in the department. It’s no joke. I have to go the other way when going to the shared copier. Don’t even get me started on the cracker/nut/chip samples. All crap all the time.

Very evolved to get rid of something you don’t even enjoy! I have something in my cupboard that fits into that category. Haven’t made myself throw it out yet.
