The very kind folks over at Swamimami Teas caught wind of my love affair with tea and offered to send me their 2 week TeaTox to try and review. First some explanation:
What the heck is a Teatox? From the Swamimami Teas Website:
It’s A Tea Detox, Or As We Like To Call It A Teatox…
Our Swami Mami Teatox is a unique blend of two different teas, one you drink in the morning “Get Lean” and the other you drink every other night “Get Clean”. These teas are designed to work perfectly together to help rid your body of any unwanted weight. They are safe, all-natural, herbal ingredients designed to gently cleanse the digestive tract and detoxify the body, as well as boost metabolism and reduce cravings. They are delicious blends that work wonders without any discomfort. Our tea combination is much more effective than other detox and weight loss teas on the market.
Since I like tea and I like losing weight, I decided to give it a go. I drank the Get Lean tea every morning and afternoon, and the Get Clean tea every other night. First of all, the teas are really tasty. I would never have known these were “weight loss” teas if I didn’t already know – they both have a pleasant taste and really don’t need any sweetener, although sometimes I added honey if I was in the mood for a little sweetness.
What I noticed about the Get Lean tea is that it took the edge off my appetite. I drank the morning tea about an hour before lunch and I drank the afternoon tea about an hour before I left work and what I found was that although it didn’t eliminate my appetite, it knocked it down enough that I could make a reasonable choice instead of automatically choosing the most sugary and carby thing in my fridge.
When I drank the Get Clean tea, I’ll be honest, I expected bad things. It has a laxative effect so I expected that it would work like most laxatives and have me running for the bathroom. Not so. Let’s just say that I had plenty of time. It definitely works, but there was no cramping and no fears of sneezing at the wrong moment. I’m not the most regular person, but the Get Clean tea helped to get me on a more predictable schedule.
Swamimami Teas claim to increase energy and reduce cravings – and I agree that they did that for me. It took about 3 days before I noticed any changes, but I did notice that in the evenings after dinner instead of collapsing on the couch, I had enough energy to do the dishes and tackle a load of laundry. It wasn’t the jittery, heart-palpitating energy you sometimes get with things like this, just a nice little increase that helped me get through the day. As far as reducing cravings, I guess it helped in that it reduced my appetite a little bit, and so I wasn’t as attracted to sweets as I usually am.
The most difficult part of doing this teatox was remembering to drink the teas on the weekends. During the week, I sit at a desk all day so it wasn’t hard for me to remember the tea. But on the weekends, I’m pretty much on the go the whole time and I didn’t drink the teas on either weekend of the 2 weeks. Other than that, it didn’t bother me at all to drink 2-3 cups of tea per day. In fact, I rather liked the break it gave me during my work days.
So, the real question is…did I lose weight? Yes, actually I did. I lost 2.5 pounds during those two weeks and probably would have lost a bit more if I had been consistent on the weekends. It’s not a huge loss, but for me, I was very pleased with that.
I am going to continue doing this teatox for a few more weeks just to see what happens.
So, if you would like to try this Teatox there are a couple of ways you can do that:
1) Since today is Cyber Monday, they are offering a free 2 week teatox with any 4 week teatox purchase. But that’s probably only for today, so hurry! Plus you get free shipping on all orders of $49 or more.

You can find all of their ingredients in their teas listed on their site as well as other product information.
As I said, I’m going to continue with the teatox for another 6 weeks – I’ll report back with my results after Christmas. 🙂
Dear FTC folks – I received a 2week Teatox kit for free to try. The review and opinions are totally my own.
