Her name is Jillo and she dances on the sand…

Holy cow guys!!!  I forgot to tell you THE most exciting news!!   I’m going to see Duran Duran in concert on Thursday night!!!   Yeah, see, I don’t care that they haven’t been popular since the 80’s, this is a teenage fantasy come true.  When I was 14 years old (waaaayyyyyy back in the day) I had over 200 posters of Simon, John, Nick, Roger, and Andy all over my bedroom walls.  See, back then there were two schools of adoration: you were either a NKOTB fan (or as we liked to call them New Dorks On The Block), or you were a Duran Duran fan.  I was the latter – BIG TIME.  To say that I had a mild obsession would be putting it, well, mildly.  I loved me some D2.  My bff at the time, Kris, shared in my obsession and we would spend hours, HOURS Y’ALL, pouring over magazines and listening to cassette tapes of all their songs.  Duran Duran totally defined my junior high years.  And in 57 hours, I am going to see them live.  LIVE Y’ALL!!!!!   I am so excited I can hardly stand it.  Oh and another cool thing is that my 24 year old niece is going with me – I hope I don’t embarrass her!!  😉

Throw me my mom jeans! I’m going to see a band that hasn’t been popular in over 20 years!!!  WOO!!!

(I”m trying to post a video but YouTube is being stubborn.  I”ll try again later!!)

ETA:  I just found out that D2 has cancelled their Tulsa show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am absolutely bummed beyond words right now.  Why? Whywhywhywhywhy?????????????????   I’m going to go cry now.

  1. Hahahahahaha! You admitted to wearing mom jeans. Hahahahahaha! That was hilarious.

I was a fan of neither bands, but I pretended to be fans of both so I could fit in with everyone 🙂 Ahhh, confession is good for the soul.

  2. I freaking LOVE Duran Duran!!! I didn’t have 200 posters like you did, but I still loved their music. The Wedding Album from the 90s is still one of my favorite albums that is currently in my CD player in my bathroom. Hope you have a total blast! Wish I was there with you.

  3. White Flower – surely you aren’t old enough to even remember them are you????? I thought you were a young’un!!!

Laura – I love you even more now than I did before!!!!!! =)

  4. Jillie, I came over here to make a smart alec comment like ‘who is duran duran?’ but then I saw that the concert was cancelled and I feel so bad for you. I even looked their tour dates up to see if there was another concert you could go to. Would your husband take you to Houston?

The site said the keyboard player had a serious ear infection and his doctor wouldn’t let him travel. But apparently he can travel to Houston and Biloxi…

  5. Oh no, it was cancelled? I thought your devotion was pretty darn adorable. I hope they reschedule!

I totally get wanting to see old favorites. Mine are even older than that! I won’t date myself by naming them, but they make Duran Duran look hip and current.

  6. Hi Jill, I just happened across your site today and giggled at this entry, until I was crushed for you. Like you, I was a teenage MEGA-FAN of Duran Duran, but (also like you), living in Oklahoma, I never got a chance to see them. DH and I moved to CA a few years ago and in one summer, saw them 3 times. Yes, it was pure heaven, and I was a giggly teenager all over again. It was a little weird being with fans (my age, even) who didn’t stand and scream and dance, and were concerned about getting home in time to take the babysitter home. When did we all get old?

I really hope you get another chance to see them. It’s truly a trip back to the 80’s that is totally worth it. I’m like, so sure.

  7. DECEMBER 8, 2008 My gosh, Jill…were you so devastated by missing Duran Duran that you have no blogs left in you?

Just joking….miss your clever blog entries. And yah, I know I haven’t been all that regular in posting either. Still, just saying…
